Software Consulting Projects

Retrologic's staff has extensive experience in developing software applications in the bioinformatics field, working in close collaboration with biologists and client project managers.

In addition, we have worked on contracted components for shrink-wrap software vendors and have experience in file format research and analysis.

Here are some of the projects and companies we have been involved with:

• 454 Life Sciences:
  • In collaboration with 454's software engineers, developed a module of their sequence assembly software, developed unit tests for other modules of that work, and worked on integration testing of those modules.
• Protometrix Incorporated:
  "Our contracting experience with Retrologic has been nothing but a smooth ride. Basically, we are the ones playing catch up with Retrologic, as they have delivered all the documents and software before the milestones. The quality of the software is superb, and they knew how to solve the most complicated problems facing the project. Since our first experience with Retrologic was so good, it has led us to be more open to the idea of contracting. By contracting some of our work to Retrologic, I have been able to keep a minimum staff in my department and run it most efficiently."

• CuraGen Corporation:
  • Developed novel signal processing algorithms to increase the typical read length of DNA sequencing traces, increasing productivity in CuraGen's gene sequencing facility.
  • In collaboration with CuraGen's discovery scientists, developed a bioinformatics system for rapidly identifying gene loci of potential interest in human genomic sequence data.
  • Designed and developed the CuraMap system, integrating all of CuraGen's data as well as public resources in a single graphical view.
• Microsoft Corporation:
  • Development of the graphical import and export filters which shipped with MS Office.
  • Work on the MS Office component, Clip Art Gallery for Office; in particular, we were responsible for the implementation of high fidelity thumbnail imaging.
  • External review of the file format documentation for MS Office prior to their publication on the Microsoft Developer's Network.
• Adobe Systems Incorporated:
  • File format analysis of the products MS Publisher v95 and v97, in preparation for the development of document import filters for Adobe products.
• Ncode Research Incorporated:
  • Research into productivity application and raster graphic file formats, and development of a suite of 100% Pure Java document viewers for Microsoft Office files. (Now part of Stellent, Inc.'s Outside In for Java).
• Corel Corporation:
  • The development of Java document import and export filters for the project Corel Office for Java.
