WINE-based CrossOver Promises Intel Mac Support

filed under Software

CodeWeavers' has promised support for the upcoming Intel Macs for CrossOver, a WINE-based technology that runs non-emulated Windows programs on Unix. CrossOver will be targeted at developers porting Windows apps to the Mac, while CrossOver Office will enable Intel Mac users to run Windows programs natively.

CrossOver will presumably lead to a rash of un-Mac-like quicky ports to the Intel Mac, which is usually the kiss of death for software on the Mac. However, CrossOver Office may be a solution for those one or two Windows applications that most of us need to run once in a while (hence the WinXP box sitting unloved in the corners of our offices).
